NEWARK, Del. (AP) - Delaware's second Sikh temple has opened, giving the religious community room to grow.
The new temple opened Sunday in an industrial park near Newark.
The News-Journal reports the state's first temple has grown to more than 300 families. The Sikh Center of Delaware was established in 2004 in a converted house in Elsemere and in 2011 a building and six acres of land in New Castle were purchased for the temple.
The Sikh faith has roughly 27 million followers worldwide, with the vast majority living in India.
Organizers say the holy book for the new temple was donated by a New York City congregation and was made in the Golden Temple in Punjab, India.
