Harriet Tubman National Park Announcement Next Week

President Obama is set to designate five national parks on Monday – two of them on Delmarva.

One will mark the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad route in Maryland that helped move slaves to freedom in the north.

The Virginia based Conservation Fund donated a property on Maryland’s Eastern Shore to the National Park Service.

Tubman escaped slavery herself at the age of 27, but helped hundreds of slaves from Dorchester and Caroline counties flee to the North.

In Delaware the president the state’s first National Monument. It will include the Woodlawn Trustees property near Wilmington, the Old New Castle Courthouse, the New Castle Green and the Dover Green.
