Lower Eastern Shore Lags in Health Outcomes

free-clipart-pictures.net

Health outcomes in Maryland are not so good for some on the Lower Eastern Shore.

Those are the results of a new study of the state’s 23 counties and the city of Baltimore by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Somerset County ranked 20th health outcomes and 23rd for health factors such as health behaviors and clinical care.

Craig Stofko, health officer for Somerset County Health Department told the Salisbury Daily Times, that because the state’s overall high quality medical care the County would rank near the top if compared to other states.

But he admits there is still room for improvement in such areas as smoking and obesity.

Worcester County ranked 11th in health outcomes.

Without referring to specific rankings, Lori Brewster, health officer for the Wicomico County Health Department told the paper that there were problems the county needs to work on such as prevention.
