ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Former Anne Arundel County Executive John Leopold is set to be sentenced on two counts of misconduct in office.
Judge Dennis Sweeney will sentence Leopold on Thursday.
The former county executive resigned last month after Sweeney found him guilty of forcing his staff to do campaign work and perform personal errands like emptying his catheter bag.
Leopold would avoid jail time under a recommendation by prosecutors. They are asking for a 1-year suspended sentence, a $100,000 fine, 5 years of probation and 500 hours of community service.
The state prosecutor wrote in a sentencing memo that Leopold's conduct merits incarceration, but he cited the 70-year-old's age and health issues.
