The Maryland Public Service Commission says the state’s electric companies must harden up their facilities to improve reliability during storms.
Last summer’s derecho left 1-million customers without power.
The Commission said there was a significant gap between public expectations and the reliability of the grid.
In addition, the commission said that the electric companies must become more responsive to outages after a severe storm.
It said that communications must be improved, a review of staffing leveled is needed, and the development of strategies to address short comings must be carried out.
