Former Lieutenant Governor Gene Bookhammer Dies

A former lieutenant governor of Delaware Gene Bookhammer, has died at age 94.

The Lewes Republican served under two Democratic governors,  first Gov. Russell Peterson and then Gov. Sherman Tribbitt after defeating their running mates in the elections of 1968 and 1972.

He was first elected to the state Senate in 1962, where he served as minority whip and majority leader.

He is survived by his daughters, Joy and her husband Orville Basinski of Rehoboth Beach, and Jeanie Greenhaugh of Milton.
