The Wicomico County Council is still struggling with the possibility that subdivisions with more than seven parcels will ever be built in the county again.
The Salisbury Daily Times reports that on Wednesday more than 100 residents voiced concerns, opposition and some support for the state’s Sustainable Growth and Preservation Act of 2012.
Some in attendance called the new state law a land grab and an infringement on the county’s zoning rights while others said it was a way to preserve farmland and prevent harmful sprawl.
Opponents of the plan to break the county into four tiers that would limit the number of lots on undeveloped land brought out the Rural Legacy Program and other voluntary efforts that came with financial compensation.
If the county does not adopt a four tiered plan then under state law subdivisions of more than seven properties cannot be built.
