The Delaware Board of Education has decided to shut the doors of the Pencader Business and Finance Charter School.
The unanimous vote yesterday came on the recommendation by state Secretary of Education Mark Murphy to revoke permission for the facility to operate as a public school.
The Wilmington News Journal reports that Murphy said the Pencader officials did not submit a plan to address concerns ranging from improving student performance and strong governance to a plan for recruiting more students and a new school leader.
The school closes in June of this year.
School supporters expressed their disappointment. They who had been hoping to convince the state to give the facility another chance.
Said Pencader school board president Frank McIntosh, who joined the board in November, the dreams of the children who attended the school were “crushed because of something that is not their fault.” He added, “It is a shame.”
