The Kathryn Gets Help From Elementary School Students

skipjackpreservation.org

At least one school has gotten involved in bringing back a great Chesapeake Bay tradition.

The artwork of second grade students at Deal Island Elementary School is now displayed on Save the Kathryn T-Shirts in an effort to raise money for the 112-year old Skipjack.

The T-shirt sells for $20 through a volunteer committee and friends of the Whitelock family.

The students are expected to be in fifth grade when the Kathryn is back in the water – hopefully by next year.

It’s now being repaired by Captain Stoney Whitelock whose vessel busted a plank on a buoy during the 2011 Labor Day Skipjack Race.

In addition, the Coastal Heritage Alliance pays for 240 hours of repair work to Kathryn.
