ocsharktournament.com

New proposed regulations aimed at protecting sharks could have a dramatic effect on the local fishing industry.

The regulations would double the minimum size for sharks that can be caught by fishermen.

Mark Simpson, captain of the Fish Finder and director of the Ocean City Shark Tournament told the Salisbury Daily Times that this would essential eliminate the retention of the recreationally caught shark.

The great fish has been on the decline even though their capture has been banned since 2000.

Mike Clark with the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration told a recent meeting with fishermen the minimum size would be 96 inches for all sharks.
