BALTIMORE (AP) - Saving sea turtles is the subject of a meeting this week in Baltimore.
The National Aquarium is co-hosting the 33rd Annual Symposium on Sea Turtle Biology and Conservation, which runs through Friday. More than 1,000 scientists and conservationists from 75 countries are expected to attend. The symposium is being presented by the International Sea Turtle Society.
National Aquarium CEO John Racanelli says the Chesapeake Bay is an important foraging area for some sea turtle species and the aquarium is deeply invested in the cause.
Aquarium officials say more than 200 strandings have been reported this season along the East Coast. The aquarium is part of the Northeast Stranding Network and works with other aquariums and institutions to save stranded turtles.
