Several Thousand Take the Plunge

sode.org

Around 35-hundred people plunged into the cold waters off of Rehoboth Beach yesterday as part of the Lewes Polar Bear Plunge.

They raised around $652-thousand for the Special Olympics Delaware.

On hand was Mathew Rache who waded in like many participants with a costume dressed as a Roaring 20’s flapper in a black-and-gold outfit.

He told the Wilmington News Journal that last year he came in a unitard with a tutu.

Participating in her second plunge State Representative Debra Heffermen came with family in tow and a hat that looked like a polar bear.

The Polar Plunge organizers also held events on Saturday to attract travelers with an ice sculpture contest, a 5-K run-walk and a chance for dogs to take the plunge themselves.
