New Screening Reg's for Delaware Newborns

DOVER, Del. (AP) - State public health officials are considering new regulations regarding screening of newborn babies for certain medical disorders.

Officials are proposing regulations governing the screening of infants for metabolic, hematologic, endocrinology related, and certain structural disorders.

The regulations stem from the adoption by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in 2011 of recommendations to add screening for critical congenital heart disease to uniform screening standards.

The proposed regulations are subject to public comment and can be reviewed in the current edition of the Delaware Register of Regulations.
