WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Gov. Jack Markell is paying tribute to a group of youngsters who brought back a national football championship to Delaware.
Members of the Wilmington Soldiers football club won the American Youth Football league's Fifth Grade National Championship in Florida in December.
Markell planned to meet Thursday with team members, their families and coach Robert Baldwin.
The team won the championship with victories over teams from Bridgeport, Conn., Gainesville, Fla., and Detroit.
Wilmington quarterback MarShawn Lloyd topped the honors by being named MVP and player of the week.
