ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Closing arguments are set in the trial of Anne Arundel County Executive John Leopold.
Attorneys are scheduled to begin summarizing their cases Tuesday morning in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court.
Leopold is charged with using his security detail for personal and political purposes.
His attorneys say the allegations by the state prosecutor's office are too vague and do not constitute crimes. Prosecutors contend Leopold engaged in a cumulative pattern of abusing his powers for personal gain by using county employees to help him politically and to facilitate sexual encounters.
Leopold, a Republican in his second term as county executive, faces three charges of misconduct in office. He also faces a charge of misusing county money for personal benefit.
