Parents Ask for More Protection in Worcester County Schools

worcesterk12.com

Some Parents of students in Worcester County told the local school board at this month’s meeting that they want more security for their children after the shootings at a Connecticut elementary school that left 20 children dead.

Superintendent of Schools Jerry Wilson said that there were measures already in place at the county’s 14 public schools.

But the Salisbury Daily Times reports that Jeane Zender, mother of a Showell Elementary School student, called the students “sitting ducks”.

Wilson said that the school system was exploring additional safety measures such as adding school resource officers and making certain capital improvements.

He noted that the schools already require visitors to sign in while employees had to wear badges and carry radios.

In addition, each school had an emergency plan as well as locked exterior doors.
