DOVER, Del. (AP) - Delaware lawmakers are joining forces to oppose a state panel's recommendation to raise the pay of judges and certain cabinet officials.
More than 50 of the legislature's 62 members have signed on to a resolution to be introduced Thursday to reject the recommendations of the Delaware Compensation Commission. The commission meets every four years to review salaries for top officials and make recommendations for pay increases. The panel is recommending a 6 percent raise for judges and raises from 2 percent to 9 percent for certain cabinet secretaries.
By law, if the General Assembly does not reject the commission's report in its entirety within 30 days, the proposed raises automatically go into effect.
Lawmakers say the state's financial situation is too uncertain to authorize the pay increases now.
