DOVER, Del. (AP) - State education officials are encouraging prospective college students and their families to attend free advice sessions on applying for college financial aid.

The Delaware Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators is sponsoring a series of "Financial Aid Nights" starting Thursday.

The sessions will include information about applying for need-based and merit-based aid.

Officials also will discuss federal, state and institutional programs - including grants, scholarships, work-study and loans.

Financial aid representatives will explain how to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form and how colleges determine financial need.

The first session will be held Thursday evening at Polytech High School in Kent County, with other sessions at various sites through Jan. 23.
