In Pocomoke City murders are down by 200%while theft and larcenies have declined by 87%.
Burglaries have also dropped by 64%.
The numbers come after a year on the job for Police Chief Kelvin Sewell.
It’s been two years since a murder was reported in the town.
At the time Sewell took over, Maryland’s most southern town was averaging one to two murders per year.
Sewell told the Salisbury Daily Times that one of the secrets of his success has been getting his officers out of their cares and walking the streets.
Pocomoke City Mayor Bruce Morrison said he was excited to see the crime statistics.
