NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP) - The New Castle County Council has approved spending $76,000 to improve its 911 system.
WDEL-AM reports that the money will go to implementing a SMART 911 system that can give 911 operators more information about callers. SMART 911 is a database that allows residents to input information about their household that they want emergency responders to have. That may include medical information, family contact information, profiles and photographs of children and directions to a hard-to-find home.
That information can then be relayed to emergency responders.
The system is expected to go into effect within the first four months of next year.
