ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - The city of Annapolis is celebrating its role in the events that led up to the adoption of the U.S. Constitution.
The Annapolis Capital reports the city will begin its three-day Continental Congress Festival on Monday. It's being held at one of the oldest buildings in Annapolis, the Governor Calvert House on State Street.
The festival is free and includes exhibits and lectures about the history of Annapolis during the 1780s. A number of rare documents will also be on display including a copy of the congressional proclamation that adopted the Treaty of Paris, the treaty that ended the Revolutionary War. Congress signed the proclamation while meeting in Annapolis in 1784.
An organizer of this week's event says only four of the 15 original copies of the proclamation survive.
