No Skate Park in Salisbury

cohen, website

There will be no new skate park in Salisbury.

The majority on the City Council ripped up plans to build the facility on the east end of the City Park.

Council President Terry Cohen said that with the construction phase of the project costing $262-thousand she said it is clear that this will be a regional attraction.

She added this would mean that the city would be taking on – what is a county responsibility with a lot of needs for ensuring its sustainability.

Cohen, Council Vice President Debbie Campbell and Council member Tim Spies voted to reject a state grant that covered the entire cost of the first phase of the project.

In a news release she complained that the council was not even given a an opportunity to talk with the county about a better location.

But, Bobby Schaller who headed the city advisory panel in the charge of planning for the last five years told the Salisbury Daily Times that they kept him in the dark about their intentions.

He told the paper that voting on the park during a portion of Monday’s general discussion section ”just how sneaky they are.”

Mayor Jim Ireton was also dismayed declaring “the culture of no continues.”
