NEWARK, Del. (AP) - Newark's City Council is considering a budget that would raise property taxes and electricity rates.
The budget would raise property taxes by 1.5 percent, or about $7 a year for the average home. The electric bill for the average customer, meanwhile, would go up a little more than $11 a year.
City officials say the increases are needed to pay for increased operating costs due to inflation and rising health and pension costs. The hikes will also help make up for decreasing revenues from utilities and other sources.
The City Council is expected to vote on the budget Nov. 26.
