NEWARK, Del. (AP) - The Food Bank of Delaware has received a $300,000 federal grant to provide locally grown fruits and vegetables to low-income people in Wilmington.
The Department of Agriculture grant will fund the food bank's new Community Supported Agriculture program. The program is aimed at helping bridge the gap between food stamp recipients and local farmers.
Program recipients will pick up their produce shares from the Cool Springs Farmers Market, managed by West End Neighborhood House.
Highland Orchards in Wilmington and SIW Vegetables in Chadds Ford, Pa., are two farms participating in the program.
Participating households will be required to pay $10 per week using their electronic benefits transfer card or other forms of payment.
