Worcester County Tourism Tax Receipts Up

The revenue from taxes on tourism in Worcester County is up by 8.6 percent for 2012.

The total take was $23.7 million.

That’s up from $21.8 million collected in 2011.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that the overall income from sales taxes for 2012 was $78.6 million jumping  by 7.8 percent from $73.1 million the year before.

The revenue from hotel, motel, apartment and cottage rentals brought in $16.4 million up from $15.3 million last year.

The biggest increase in tourism tax revenue came from restaurants and nightclubs.

It was 20.9 percent.

And, tax revenue from commercial airlines rose by nearly 51 percent.
