Wicomico County health and environmental officials are still testing the water from private wells after they found an industrial solvent in the water.
State and local officials are providing bottled water for residents along Morris Mill Road and the Colbourne Woods subdivision and sections of Anthony Lane.
The offending chemical is trichloroethene which has been detected at fluctuating levels.
Jay Apperson with the Maryland Department of the Environment told the Salisbury Daily Times that his top priority was to make sure homeowners have an alternative water supply.
In addition, residents are also being asked to limit the amount of time they use the water where the chemical has been detected in higher levels.
So far, 18 out of 44 wells have shown the levels of the chemical higher than that which is allowed by the Environmental Protection Agency.
