FREDERICK, Md. (AP) - The city of Frederick has banned fishing around a heavily traveled one-mile portion of Carroll Creek due to safety concerns.
The Frederick News-Post reports the Board of Alderman voted unanimously Thursday to ban fishing between East Patrick Street and the bridge behind the Diggs swimming pool.
Roelkey Myers, the city's deputy director of parks and recreation, says there are too many people in the area to allow fishing. Myers also says that fishing hooks could damage lily pads that were recently installed in the creek to combat an algae problem.
A similar ban was previously sought in 2007 but failed.
