University of Delaware Senior Makes Debut on "Survivor"

Katie Hanson, cbs.com

It’s “Survivor: Philippines” tonight.

And University of Delaware senior Katie Hanson debuts as a contestant.

Students will be gathered at Trabant University Center to watch their fellow student begin her fight for a million dollars.

But the 22-year old former Miss Delaware USA will not be with them.

Instead, the Wilmington News Journal reports that she will gather with co-workers from Outback Steakhouse at a friend’s house to watch the CBS reality show unfold.

Hanson took off last semester to participate in the filming of the show from March through May.

In speaking about the conditions only she said the game is clearly a “roughing it experience”.

The News Journal reports Hanson added that when she began the game she wondered what she had gotten herself into.

A show recruiter found her on Facebook.

She is a criminal justice major with plans to become a state trooper.
