SMYRNA, Del. (AP) - Officials in Delaware are looking to develop a statewide plan to improve care for people suffering from Alzheimer's disease and to support those who care for them.
Representatives of the Department of Health and Social Services and the Alzheimer's Association of Delaware are co-chairing a task force aimed at developing a comprehensive state government plan for addressing the mind-destroying disease.
The task force is to hold its first meeting on Sept. 28.
Federal officials declared Alzheimer's one of the "most-feared" health conditions in the country as they issued the first draft of the National Alzheimer's Plan earlier this year.
Officials estimate that some 26,000 Delawareans are living with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia.
