Dark Sand Along Rehoboth Beach Shoreline

Rough weather has brought some black sand to the shores of Rehoboth Beach.

It’s made up of various minerals which may provide some insight into the region.

It first appeared about two weeks ago and covers the length of the city’s beach.

Rehoboth Beach Patrol Captain Kent Buckson told the Wilmington News Journal that it has only been seen a handful of times over the last five years.

And the black sand usually shows up after high-energy storms.

There’s nothing harmful about it.

But beach goers have expressed concern about dark colored sand with some staying away from the beach.
