Twelve Year Old Girl Dies Of Gunshot Wound in Willards

A twelve year old girl has died from a gunshot at her home in the town of Willards.

Authorities say it appears to have been an accident.

Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office said that Taylor Lewis was shot in the head while inside her home on State Street at around 2:45 yesterday afternoon.

She was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center by ambulance and died of her injuries.

Sheriff Mike Lewis, who is not related, told the Salisbury Daily Times that a rifle, not a handgun, has been taken into evidence.

After the incident a boy wearing a gray sling on his left arm was seen being led out of the house by police.

Police would not say if he was related.

He was not in handcuffs.

Authorities say the investigation is continuing.
