It’s a cat and mouse game in Delaware.
Despite fines imposed over the last seven years to deter people from putting up temporary signs along the roadside state officials say they can’t keep up with them.
The Wilmington News Journal reports that they have been sprouting like weeds hawking such things as pizza specials and fast cash now.
Officials say many of – what are called sign bandits – have been climbing up utility poles to put up their thin often fluorescent signs.
Roadside control agent Melissa Feldman said last month that she removed a sign last month announcing the hiring of school bus drivers along Route 40.
Residents are now demanding that DelDOT increase its sign patrols and are calling on the state to up the fine of $25.
