Governor Jack Markell is now the chair of the National Governor’s Association.
The Delaware Democrat was chosen at the end of this weekend’s meeting in Williamsburg, Virginia.
And he said that he will be working to increase job opportunities for Americans with disabilities.
The Wilmington News Journal reports that the association says only 20 percent of Americans with disabilities are actively looking for work.
That’s compared with 69 percent of Americans in general.
Markell has been serving as vice chair of the organization and takes over the chairmanship from Republican Governor Dave Heineman of Oklahoma.
The Governor told the paper that he will be in a better position to talk about the First State which he added is important to Delaware’s businesses.
