$12.5 Million Bond for New Bennett Middle School Gets County Approval

$12.5 million worth of bonds were approved by the Wicomico County Council last night for the construction of the new Bennett Middle School.

All but one council member approved the money.

The exception was Council President Joe Holloway who said afterward that he was only allowed to vote to break a tie.

Board of Education President Ron Willey and Superintendent John Fredericksen both made their pitch for the project.

Willey called it the right thing to do while Fredericksen told the council that the project would put hundreds of people to work in the community.

The planning phase began four years ago but was held up until now because of financial concerns.

Construction will cost over $72 million with the county kicking in over $42.8 million.
