Mixed Scores on Maryland School Assessment for Lower Shore

Worcester County students did well on the Maryland School Assessment tests scoring above state averages in reading and math.

Jerry Wilson superintendent of the County school system said that the students in 2012 did better than last year.

In Wicomico County school system officials said there were some successes for their students.

They improved in their proficiency in math for grades five, six and eight.

But the percentage of students scoring proficient in reading declined in every grade except fourth.

And even in math proficiency scores fell for grades three, four and seven.

Meanwhile, Somerset County educators said they were happy that all the elementary and middle schools reached proficiency targets set by the state.
