Thousands of NASCAR fans are expected to begin descending upon Dover this week for the annual race at the Dover International Speedway.
Last year around 80-thousand climbed into the grandstands at the one-mile track on Sunday.
That is down from the once sellout crowds of as many as 130-thousand – a decline that began with the onset of the recession in 2008.
Campers and RV’s have been rolling into town this week with nearly all of the 29-hundred hotel rooms in the city booked for Saturday night.
The Wilmington News Journal reports that parking at Dover Downs is free on Friday and Saturday but will cost $10 on Sunday.
Other businesses are offering parking for cars and campers off site.
Shuttle buses will also be running from Christiana Mall and the Blue Hen Corporate Center in north Dover.
On Saturday night also expect to encounter more than 600 motorcyclists who plan to cross the bridge eastbound as part of a benefit-ride to Ocean City.
