Pay To Play for Musicians in Dewey Beach

DEWEY BEACH, Del. (AP) - Musicians booking gigs in the town of Dewey Beach will have to pay to play.

The News Journal of Wilmington, Del.,  reports that for the first time the town is making musicians and DJs buy a $109 business license to play in the town. If a performer does not pay, they face a warning or a fine of up to $500.

The fee only applies to musicians being paid, so free acts are exempt.

Dewey Beach Mayor Diane Hanson says having artists pay for a business license is a matter of fairness.
