Delaware Moves Closer to Tightening Home Invasion Penalties

Delaware is inching closer to toughening up its home invasion laws.

A measure that would establish home invasion as a distinct criminal offense with mandatory minimum jail sentences unanimously passed the state House of Representatives this week.

Under the measure first time offenders would face six years in jail and 8 years for a second offense.

There is a competing measure in the Senate that would establish a 15 year minimum jail term for the first offenders with a life sentence for a second offense.
