State Panel to Review Natural Gas Power Plant in Dover

DOVER, Del. (AP) - A panel headed by state Economic Development  Secretary Alan Levin is scheduled to hear a request this week from an energy company looking to build a natural-gas power plant in Dover.

The News Journal of Wilmington (http://delonline.us/I5gjlP) reports that Houston-based Calpine Corp. is expected to ask the committee on Thursday for $6 million from the New Jobs Infrastructure Fund. The fund was created last year to help create business growth by covering the cost of some road and utility improvements.

In February, the Dover City Council committed $6 million for infrastructure around the proposed plant and last week the Dover Planning Commission approved a master site plan for the project. The plant has been approved for the Garrison Oak Technology Park, which is a 400-acre plot owned by the city.
