Legal Finance Battle Up Before the Salisbury City Council Tonight

The controversy over Salisbury's legal budget for the remainder of the current fiscal year will come up for scrutiny at night's City Council meeting.

The Council is set to take a second and final vote on a measure that would add $30,000 for the City Attorney.

However, at an April 16, meeting, Council members Laura Mitchell and Shanie Shields received a spread sheet showing that an additional $100,000 is needed to cover legal bills for the rest of the fiscal year.

Director of Internal Services Gerri Moore estimated that a total of $240,438 is needed to cover the year's legal expenses -- $70,000 more than the $30,000 up for a final vote tonight.

Mitchell and Shields will review whether or not legal services are being used in a responsible manner, before they approving the new budget.
