Perdue Hudson Case Date Set for October

BALTIMORE (AP) - A new court date has been set for Oct. 9 in a poultry pollution lawsuit filed by a University of Maryland environmental law clinic.

The case was originally scheduled to begin this week but a judge postponed it, encouraging the two sides to reach a settlement. The plaintiffs are suing Hudson Farm and Perdue Farms Inc., claiming that the Salisbury-based poultry company and the Worcester County contract grower are polluting a nearby waterway.

A Perdue spokeswoman on Wednesday told The Baltimore Sun in an email that it did not appear the case will settle.

Farm groups have said the suit could bankrupt Hudson Farm and set a harmful precedent for other family farms.
