Racial Disparity for Colorectal Cancer Disappears in Delaware

Delaware has become the first state to eliminate the statistical gap between African Americans and whites in the incidence of colorectal cancer.

The new figures were released yesterday at Christiana Care’s Helen F. Graham Cancer Center.

Former Governor Ruth Ann Minner is credited with much of the early work, spearheading a cancer prevention task force that led in 2001 to the Delaware Cancer Consortium.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that meant emphasizing colorectal cancer screenings and improving early detection.
