John A. Moaney, an African American, grew up working in the fields of the Eastern Shore. But, as a soldier during the World War II he became the valet for then General Dwight D. Eisenhower and developed a friendship that would last a life time. Delmarva Public Media’s Kevin Diaz has this portrait of that common bond.

Kevin Diaz has more than four decades of journalism experience, including the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Houston Chronicle, Washington City Paper, and public radio on the Eastern Shore.
