World War II Veteran Receives 70,000 Valentines From Around The World

STEVE INSKEEP, HOST:

Good morning, I'm Steve Inskeep. Major Bill White is a Marine Corps veteran in Stockton, Calif. He fought in Iwo Jima in World War II, was wounded and awarded a Purple Heart. At age 104, he loves scrapbooking, so a friend invited people on social media to send him valentines. It's not quite Valentine's Day, but he does have enough cards for the scrapbooks. Reuters reports he received 70,000 cards. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
