Two Arrested in Wicomico Courthouse Graffiti Incident

Wicomico County Sheriff

Two people have been arrested in connection with the graffiti chalked on the sidewalk and steps of the Wicomico County Courthouse.

The sheriff’s office identified them as 29-year-old Christopher Aulerich and 27-year-old Jordan Swanson – both from Salisbury.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that they have been charged with malicious destruction of property of less than a thousand dollars.

The graffiti appears to be connected to the calls to remove the plaque noting the General John Winder who oversaw the notorious Confederate prisoner of war camps.

The chalked phrases included “Tear Down Winder” and “Winder is Scum”.

There also was the phrase “Lynching Happened Here” referring to the 1931 lynching of Mathew Williams an African American who was accused of murder.
