BALTIMORE (AP) - Baltimore's top prosecutor wants to take away a defendant's right to a bench trial unless a judge and prosecutor agree to it - a proposal that comes in the wake of the acquittal of three police officers who had bench trials in connection with the death of a man whose neck was broken while in custody.
State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby announced the proposal at a news conference Thursday.
The announcement came three months after Mosby dismissed the cases against the remaining police officers charged in Freddie Gray's death following their colleagues' acquittals.
Mosby said she has not discussed her proposals with Police Commissioner Kevin Davis.
