BALTIMORE (AP) - The Maryland State Department of Education says it's awarding $6.9 million in state funds to 481 schools to supplement a federal school-breakfast program.
The state agency says the state funds will provide in-classroom breakfast to more than 240,000 students this school year.
The state supplement is $1.7 million more than last year.
Gov. Martin O'Malley says he's committed to ending childhood hunger in Maryland by 2015.
He says better nutrition means better learning, and better learning means a better future.
