Wicomico County could be getting its power from a solar energy project on two county lots and could see its electric bill cut in half.
The County Council yesterday heard a plan involving a purchase agreement with SolarCity for development of the two sites located at the county landfill in Salisbury and the Delmar Convenience Center.
The landfill would have around 75-hundred solar panels while the convenience center would have nearly 35-hundred.
The Salisbury Daily Times reports that the ability of the county to keep the rate fixed over a 20-year period would keep it from facing so-called escalator rates commonly faced by utility companies.
