Jobless Rate in Virginia Hits Three Year Low

The jobless rate in Virginia hit 5.8 percent January.

That’s down from 6.2 percent in December and 6.4 percent in January of last year.

Governor Bob McDonnell said yesterday that the drop to a three year low comes despite job declines across the majority of the state’s industries over the last month.

McDonnell along with Lt. Gov. Bill Bolliing and State Commerce Secretary Jim Cheng made the announcement…during an appearance at the Richmond based James River Air Conditioning Company.

The Virginia Republican was touting the company’s growth to 150 employees from its beginning as a one man, one-truck operation in 1967.

McDonnell’s administration’s image has been hit…with battles over abortion restrictions and the repeal of state’s one-handgun-a-month law.
