Tackling Cybersecurity in Maryland

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — A new cybersecurity bill, introduced by Sen. Susan Lee, would create a template defense system for agencies in Maryland to battle cyberattacks.

Senate bill 120 would give the Maryland Department of Information Technology the expanded responsibility of developing a cybersecurity strategy and helping agencies within the state implement it at their discretion.

While no organization would be forced to use the plan, the main purpose is for education, health and other agencies to have a sample plan of action for cyber defense.

Lee said officials have to prepare for and respond to digital fires upfront rather than scrambling on the back end.
